We’re back with another Wedding Wednesday post. I’ve really had so much fun sharing our wedding with you all and have loved getting to recap it all on my blog. When we got married blogging was on my radar, and had been for a while, however it was not something I thought I could do or anticipated starting anytime soon. I can honestly say though, starting my Instagram back in mid February and my blog in March has been so amazing for me. It has really pushed me out of my comfort zone in ways that I needed to be pushed. I’ve had the opportunity to meet some amazing ladies, go on fun lunch dates, and just be a part of a fun community of creative woman, which is something I really needed. All that to say, I am no where near where I want to be or hope to be in a couple of years, but I just wanted to share with you all how grateful I am for all of the support. Whether it is a comment, a like, a share, or a subscription to my blog- it means SO much to me! I can’t wait to see how I grow my blog, and hope you will all grow with me.
Okay, now lets move on to the fun wedding stuff! This week I’ll be sharing all about my personal bridal style and how I chose certain things like shoes, accessories, hair styles, and makeup! Lets start with how I chose my wedding dress. Picking a wedding dress was something I had always dreamed about. In my mind (and all over Pinterest) I had the exact dress I would wear already picked out. Let’s just start out by saying this, DO NOT be upset when your dream dress (from Pinterest or your mind) does not work out. This was kind of a reality check for me, I’m the type of girl who had planned my wedding out for years. I knew what colors, what season, I knew it all. Or so I thought. So, when the time came to go try on dresses I thought it would be pretty quick and simple, considering I knew exactly what I wanted. Let me also say this, you may be that person that chose the exact dress you thought you would, or you might be like me and end up going a totally different direction. We’re all different, and this is just my experience. Alright, back on track! So we set up the appointments, I researched all the places I wanted to go, and then it was finally time. I was so excited and a little nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. I had made appointments for three bridal shops that day and assumed I would find my dress that day. So, when we got to the first place I described what I wanted to try, showed the stylist photos, and we pulled out gowns. After trying on a few dresses that I thought were going to be my style, I realized I needed to branch out and try things I wouldn’t have normally tried.
So, everyone who was with me began pulling dresses. Ones they liked, ones I liked, just a huge variety. It was actually kind of fun to try a ton of different styles, because honestly you never know what’s going to look best on your body, until you try a ton of different options. We did this all day, at three different places. I tried on mermaid fit dresses, long sleeve dresses, ball gowns, you name it- I tried it. My problem at the end of the day was this- I had tried on so many dresses, loved so many of them, and went home not really remembering what they all looked like. A tip for any of you bride to be’s- HAVE SOMEONE TAKE LOTS AND LOTS OF PHOTOS. Having photos to look back at when you’re home later and have some time to look alone is so helpful. When you’re trying on thirty plus dresses, it’s impossible to remember all the details. So assign someone to taking photos, and use those in making your decision.
I didn’t find my dress the first day, so we scheduled a couple more appointments and I found it the second time around. I ended up buying a dress knowing I would want to make some alterations to it. So I started that process as soon as I picked up my dress. We added some things that I really wanted, and took away some parts of the dress that I wasn’t in love with. If you’re planning on altering major parts of your dress, make sure you find someone who is skilled in this area. Do not just take it to a regular tailor.
So my overall tips for finding your dress are as follows- 1. Try on things that you wouldn’t normally try 2. Be open to opinions from family and friends 3. Take lots and lots of photos 4. Have photos on your phone for possible ideas that you can show the stylist 4. Don’t get frustrated if you do not find your dress right away, it’s the most important dress you’ll ever wear so take your time and don’t stress 5. Last but not least, make sure YOU are comfortable. At the end of the day it is YOUR wedding dress, not your families, not your bridesmaids, it’s yours. So take other peoples opinions into consideration, but at the end of the day you get to make that choice and it’s such a fun choice to make! Below are some photos of my wedding dress. I actually ended up wearing a totally different dress for our reception, and I will share both below.
Okay let’s move on to accessories. I had so much fun picking out my earrings, shoes, and perfume. I may have spent a little too much time choosing these things, but I really knew what I wanted and you only get to do this once so I wanted to get it right the first time. For my shoes I knew I wanted something comfortable first and foremost. We got married outside and had to walk in grass so I did not want to be stumbling or be uncomfortable at the altar. I ended up choosing a thick block heel which was amazing. I still wear these shoes today, and I love that I’m able to still use them. I chose a color that complemented all the colors in our wedding theme, and ended up going with a deep marsala. It was so pretty against the white of my dress, and I loved the lace up details. When choosing shoes I would say to keep these three things in mind. 1. Make sure you can walk in the pair you choose. It is not all about what they look like, if you can’t walk it is not going to look good, trust me 2. Make sure that you try them on before your wedding day and spend some time walking around in them 3. Pick a pair of shoes that you’ll be able to use again one day. I seriously love being able to wear mine, and think of how wonderful our wedding day was every time I wear them.
Moving on to accessories. When choosing accessories be sure that you’re taking into consideration all the amazing details of your dress. If your dress is plain and not extremely extravagant you can probably add more accessories. If your dress is extremely extravagant with beading and lace, I would say to wear minimal accessories. At the end of the day though, it all comes down to the look you’re trying to achieve. I didn’t want to wear a ton of jewelry and wanted the pieces that I did wear to be statement pieces. I ended up wearing a beautiful blush pair of Kendra Scott statement earrings with some delicate bracelets that I picked up from Nordstrom. I wanted the focus to be on my dress, but I still wanted to wear accessories. My top three tips for choosing YOUR accessories 1. Buy multiple options and try them all on with your dress, you never know what you’re going to like best until you try it 2. Figure out what you want your focus to be- the dress, your glamorous accessories, etc. 3. Make sure your earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc, are complimenting your shoes. Try and keep them all on the same color spectrum so it will all flow together!
Last but not least, choosing your perfume! This part was seriously so fun for me. Primarily because I’ve worn the same three perfumes for the past 10 years, I know I need to change it up a bit, but I just loved my three and didn’t see a need for a new one. That is until it was time to pick one out for our wedding day. I’m going to be honest, I don’t really have any tips on how to do this. This one is all about preference and what you like. I’ll share with you how I chose mine, and you’ll probably laugh, but it worked for me, so maybe it will work for someone else. First, I got recommendations from friends and family. I wanted to try things that were different and not necessarily something I would typically choose. So first and foremost do that. Make a list of all the options and head to your favorite department store. I chose my perfume a couple weeks before our wedding and ended up going to our local Nordstrom with my list of possible options. I tested them all, took the samples home, had Cameron smell them, and waited a couple days to see what I liked the best. There was nothing that I really loved, and so I went back a few days later. I’m not one to buy things because of the name brand, and I certainly do not only buy brands that I’ve heard about. I love to branch out and try new brands, so I started to look at perfumes that weren’t ones you really hear about. I stopped looking at Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and all the brands I had used in the past and just started browsing. When I did this I found the one. I knew I loved it as soon as I smelt it. I feel like when you’re shopping for perfume it’s kind of a hard to describe what you’re looking for, so when you find the one you love, you just know! I ended up choosing Paco Rabanne Olympea perfume, and let me tell you, IT IS AMAZING. This perfume is my favorite scent I have ever used. If you have not tried this or heard of it, run, don’t walk, to the mall and test this out. It is so amazing! I would try and describe what it smells like but I would probably confuse us all, so just try it for yourself and you’ll see what I mean.
Something I really love about choosing accessories for your wedding is the feeling you get 3 months, 6 months, or a year down the road when you get to use them again. To this day, every time I put that perfume on, my husband and I both comment on how it can literally take you back to that day. I also wore it the whole time on our honeymoon, so every time I wear it it takes us back to the best weeks of our life! Such a fun way to relive that special time in life! I will share a few photos of my accessories below.
Okay, so that’s it for this weeks Wedding Wednesday. I hope this post can give you some ideas, or just a little bit of inspiration. Even if you’re not planning a wedding and just want some new accessories or a new amazing perfume, I hope you enjoyed this post. I have linked some of the items in my photos at the bottom as usual, but if you have any specific questions please feel free to leave a comment or email me! Have an amazing day friends!
